Frequently asked questions

What are the benefits of eCME?

Getting your CME credits electronically has lots of benefits:

  • Flexible – Access materials at a time and place which suits you. With multiple formats, you can even access on the go.

  • Up-to-date – Due to the digital nature, eCME content can be updated easily to ensure that it matches the current best practices.

  • Measurable – Easily monitor your achievements and CME points gained.

  • Consistent content – All HCPs can access the same quality of content.

  • Individualisation – You can tailor your learning to your individual needs and interests by choosing specific eCME courses in a format which suits your learning style.

Why do CME credits matter?

Continuing Medical Education is important to healthcare professionals because most countries and medical licensing boards require a certain number of CME credits to allow HCPs to maintain their medical licenses. This is to ensure that HCPs are continuing to develop their learning and keep up-to-date with the latest gold-standard practices.

What is the difference between CME and CPD?

Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) are often used interchangeably. However, CME is one part of CPD since CPD is the overall process of developing as a professional which includes medical education but could also include the development of professional qualities such as HCPs developing their teaching, research projects, clinical writing and leadership skills.

How can I get free CME credits?

How do I claim CME credits?

Each resource will have instructions on how to claim CME credits, often once you have completed the activity you will have a certificate to download which can be added to your portfolio.

How much CME do I need?

  • UK: All licensed doctors, physicians and surgeons are expected to complete CPD annually and CME activities are included within this. As part of good medical practice, all doctors are responsible for identifying their learning needs and creating a plan to address these. Doctors need to complete revalidation every 5 years and must show evidence that the required amount of CPD has been completed. Different medical and surgical specialties have their own CPD requirements, typically in hours.

  • Worldwide: Check with your medical licensing board to find out how much CME is required to keep you up-to-date.
